The Great Smartphone Debate

In the beginning, smartphones were considered to be threatening to the teaching environment and nothing more than a handheld distraction and now schools are introducing acceptance of the smartphone into the classroom because ”After all, when the smartphone in your pocket is many millions of timesmore powerful than all the computers used to send man to the moon, it makes sense to use it to full advantage.” With the introduction of phones in schools, this encourages students to use the same technology they will find in the workplaces of the future.

I consider that this article gives us very good tips and information to help our students and children to use smartphones and tablets to increase their education. Often children do not know how to properly use the internet in a way that benefits their learning and that is why we must guide and help them make good use of this. The 10 "best ways to use smartphones and tablets to boost your kid's education" give us on that graph must take them into account for our children do not misuse the access they have to these devices. The apps and services that show in the chart can help us a lot for our day-to-day children  to improve their skills in school.

If the Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov were alive today, what would he say about smartphones? He might not think of them as phones at all, but instead as remarkable tools for understanding how technology can manipulate our brains.

Pavlov’s own findings — from experiments he did more than a century ago, involving food, buzzers and slobbering dogs — offer key insights into why our phones have become almost an extension of our bodies, modern researchers say. The findings also provide clues to how we can break our dependence.

How I added four hours of battery life to my smartphone every day for free - USA Today

How I added four hours of battery life to my smartphone every day for free - USA Today | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
I’ve had big-time battery drain issues on my last three iPhones. I just figured it was my fault — maybe I’m too addicted to apps, take too many photos, or just use my phone too much?

It’s an issue I’ve gone to Apple for help with many times. But the Genius’s — Apple's retail support — were flummoxed, too. After the typical troubleshooting: Update iOS? Check. Adjust screen brightness? Check. Use Wi-Fi when possible, turn off location services, and tone down notifications? Check, check, and check again. Nothing seems to solve the issues. Maybe I got the phone wet?

It was time to kick things up to the next level. I enlisted experts like Scotty Loveless, a former Apple Genius and iOS tech who told me this would not be another, “turn off every useful feature of iOS posts…” because those “really grind my gears.” Finally, someone speaking my language!

With that said, here’s how I finally beat the worst of my battery battles — and now you can, too.

As an art educator in this current digital and globalized world, I personally struggle with finding merit in allowing the use of smart phones within my classroom. This article provides necessary and validated examples of situations in which even myself can not deny the importance and usage of adapting my classroom to this globally and digitally aware era of education.
