How to Be a Better Online Teacher

How to Be a Better Online Teacher | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Whether you’ve taught online a lot or a little, chances are you didn’t enjoy it as much as teaching in person. Maybe you didn’t experience that fizz after a particularly invigorating face-to-face class. Indeed, according to a 2017 Educause survey, only 9 percent of academics prefer to teach “in a completely online environment.” That means a whopping 91 percent of us don’t. And I suspect that a good majority of that 91 percent would prefer to teach anywhere but online.

Educause key issues in teaching and learning | Information Literacy Weblog | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
The American association concerned with tech in higher education EDUCAUSE has announced its "key issues" for 2018. They were voted on by EDUCAUSE members. Some of them look like perennial issues to me, and some are rather generic (e.g. the first one seems to amount to - things keep changing!), but at least information literacy makes it in there  (albeit subordinated to digital literacy). There is an Infographic (reproduced here: copyright EDUCAUSE used under a Creative Commons licence) and some links to EDUCAUSE resources under each heading.

EDUCAUSE have published the results of their annual survey (1,400 members of the Higher Education community - I assume North American members of EDUCAUSE) on key issues in teaching and learning. The issues are:
1. Faculty Development and Engagement; 2. Online and Blended Learning; 3. Instructional and Learning Experience Design; 4. Digital and Information Literacy (hurrah! this was no. 5 last year); 5. Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL); 6. Competency and New Methods of Learning Assessment; 7. Learning Analytics; 8. Open Education;
