Christopher Cox predicts the significant ways academic libraries will shift in terms of collections, services, spaces and operations as a result of the pandemic.

In early March 2020, COVID-19 blindsided academic libraries. With little time to plan, we closed our library facilities at Clemson University to protect the safety of our patrons and employees and moved to online services only and work from home. Thankfully, years of curating digital content, providing multiple opportunities for research interaction and developing robust search interfaces and web presences served us well during this transition.

Elizabeth E Charles's insight:

A timely reflection on what we have learned in the last months and the possible impact this will have on academic libraries going forward, post lockdown.

Discovery Should Be Delivery: User-Centric Principles for Discovery as a Service - The Scholarly Kitchen | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The discovery environment is often frustrating for all stakeholders. Tools are fragmented. Metadata is insufficient. Authentication and interface design issues block access to resources even when one has rights to them. Even Google and Google Scholar, often cited as favorites of researchers because of ease of use and relative success in identifying full-text, are limited by questions of coverage and limited transparency in algorithms for search and results ranking.

King's College London - Library Evolution 2029

King's has set out a compelling vision to ‘make the world a better place’ in its strategy for 2029. The strategic drivers that will enable its delivery mean that Library Services must position itself as a provider of access to world-class resources and learning spaces in order to support research and teaching.

We will need to take a leading role in the emerging digital landscape at King’s, create services to support the full research life-cycle and Open Research as well as empowering students in digital literacy. We must place our Archives & Special Collections at the heart of King’s cultural offering and create opportunities for multi-disciplinary study in new learning environments.

Reimagining the role of the library in the digital age: changing the use of space and navigating the information landscape | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Yesterday Carnegie Mellon University announced a new partnership with technology company Digital Science. CMU’s Keith Webster describes the mutual commitment to research discovery and smarter workflows that underpins this collaboration, and also outlines some of the ways in which academic libraries have changed; from their more dynamic use of space to the redeveloped tools and services made available to students and researchers looking to navigate the vast information landscape.
