This is awesome! There are big time cruisers that are always looking for the next new adventure. It would be nice to see which ones will be porting in Miami!
Ana Isabel Delgado's comment, January 19, 2013 10:51 AM
The ports of call in Cambodia and Vietnam really interest me. Places like these with such ancient, rich history and that are very different from American culture open you up to so many new experiences. I look forward to seeing the evolution and how much more popular "boutique" cruises like the one highlighted in this article become in the near future. For potential hospitality employees, the job oppertunities seem like they would be slim and difficult to obtain considering that boutique cruises cater to a very small amount of clients. For the cruisers, this type of atmosphere seems ideal. Well, who wouldnt love the intimacy and everything aspect of your trip being catered to your liking? Great Article!

MSC said the new rates “will remain competitive within the market”, adding that it will offer more marketing support, together with a “lucrative” overrides scheme. The cruise line said it is setting up the new commission levels ...
Trish Sadar's insight:

MSC's strategy is to remain competitive.  Not all cruise lines have this strategy.

Anne-Lise Vergnory's comment, January 16, 2013 3:56 PM
Won't it become necessary to use this strategy soon or later? I believe that the market will probably become more and more competitive as cruise ship is not anymore a "new concept", am I wrong?
Trish Sadar's comment, January 20, 2013 12:38 PM
Anne-Lise, great question. Every cruise line has a different philosophy regarding their markeing srategy and commissions.

The Oxford Economics study from December stated that employees who begin their careers in our industry enjoy so many benefits:  improved career movement, opportunities, and higher wages.

Wonderful news!

Renata Bitar's comment, January 10, 2013 8:47 PM
Wow!!! Incredible. I was not aware of all the jobs the travel industry provides to the US population. It is incredible to know that this industry helps millions of people and motivates the others who are already working in the industry to continue and be part of it. In about four months I will be graduating and I am looking forward for a better position at the same hotel or a different and better, and knowing this just makes me happy and excited.

Anais Soto's comment, January 16, 2013 3:52 PM
I loved the commercial! UK humor is very distinctive than that of the U.S. It's why most of their shows end up having a remake of it overseas like The Office, Skins, Being Human, and a lot more. Even their Doctor Who series, and Mr. Bean is vastly popular here. By wanting to implement that same kind of humor into their commercials was brilliant. It's what all marketing directors strive for. If you're trying to hit a certain target, you gotta know what appeals to them, and it's extremely effective. If that were to air at the U.S. I don't think it would receive the same kind of 'brilliance,' because as Sally commented, it's predictable. We like to be surprised, but as far as what I've seen they don't mind on marketing the to the light hearted consumer. I think it was extremely well done, and had a great feel to it.

Iveta Perez's comment, January 18, 2013 6:52 PM
I believe that “packaging” is the right way to go for cruise lines. Guest does not want to be nickeled and dimed. There are already many fees, such as service fee, fuel charges, taxes tagged on so offering package will provide convenience and value. For example Norwegian Cruise Line provide “dinning packages” where guest can order online restaurant package which includes 3 specialty restaurants, this will allow them to experience different cuisine and atmosphere for discounted price.
Trish Sadar's comment, January 20, 2013 12:37 PM
Yes, guests are enjoying the packages, food, wine, soda -- we seem to enjoy the bundling and value!

Kyoo-Eek Choe's comment, January 11, 2013 12:24 AM
Good to see South America join the Top 10 list, I see South America in general as the next hot spot as far as tourist destinations with two of the largest sporting events coming to Brazil in the new future (World Cup 2014, and Olympics in Rio 2016) as well as countries such as Colombia economy growing fast as of late. One question I did have regarding European cruises, how popular are cruises to the Balkans, especially Croatia. I could imagine Split, Croatia being a good port city to dock at.. they also have many islands along the Dalmatian Coast that are worth seeing, especially during the summer peak season.
Ezell Raudez's comment, January 14, 2013 9:30 PM
I love that the "Caribbean reigns, but does not rule" because it is a sign of growth for the industry as a whole. They are forced to expand to other destinations such as South America, Canada, Trans-atlantic, etc due to high demand from guests. Also, very interesting to see that some cruises are booked for the end of 2014 already! I did not think people were really planning ahead with cruises but I guess they should now since demand is up. Very insightful!
