4 Tips for Retaining Maximum Muscle Mass Whilst Shredding Fat

4 Tips for Retaining Maximum Muscle Mass Whilst Shredding Fat | Bodybuilding & Fitness | Scoop.it

Via Body-Buildin.com
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

Excellent information here, no matter how long you have been bodybuilding.  Sometimes it's not about learning something new, it's remembering what we forget...

For example:

1. Low Calories = Muscle loss
Having your calories too low is the number one cause of muscle loss. To keep your muscle in an anabolic (muscle protecting) environment, it is optimal to lose weight slowly. No more than 2lbs should be lost each week. If more than this is lost, your body will enter a catabolic (muscle wasting) state. As the correct calorie intake is by far the most important factor for keeping your muscle size; scales, calories, foods and waterintake must be monitored. The reason for keeping your foods and water intake the same each day is to stop the scales from fluctuating due to glycogen/water inside the muscle cells. This can make you think you are actually losing fat, when in fact you have just lost a little water. To weigh yourself effectively, do so every morning before eating.

Charlize Theron Workout & Diet for Aeon Flux | Celebrity Fitness Training

Charlize Theron Workout & Diet for Aeon Flux | Celebrity Fitness Training | Bodybuilding & Fitness | Scoop.it
Charlize and her gymnastic trainer did workouts three hours a day for three months to prepare for Aeon Flux. Her body quickly trimmed down from the intense acrobatic training
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

This is from 2005 but it still works!

From the article..

The Aeon Flux actress went on a high protein, lower carbohydrate diet to look lean and mean in the skin-tight suit that she had to wear in the movie.

Her foods included fruits and vegetables and what’s interesting is that she is a semi-vegetarian, which means that she occasionally eats chicken. Because of the limited meats, her protein came from nuts, seeds and dairy food sources.

Her nutritionist, Jackie Keller reported that she consumed six meals a day spread out every few hours.

Monika Zands's curator insight, March 15, 2013 2:25 PM

Charlize has always been one of my favorite Actors.

She not only has an incredible physique but she is clearly up to big things and impacting the planet.

I have had the fortune of working with many celebrities developing their mindset and their success principles and in researching Charlize I find that  her level of focus and clarity causes her to attract incredible opportunities and results in that impact on the planet!

It is important to understand that getting results like these are easily sustained when you are fueling your body with great nutrition.  Designing programs for my clients helps their mental acuity, their focus, their circulation and recovery, so they can have results that are sustainable in mind, body and spirit!

Be your greatness!

My thoughts:

This article was very insightful in explaining the 'mind-blowing' benefits of exercise. I found it interesting that there are so many benefits to exercising other than the basic get in shape to avoid health risks. In addition to the physical benefits, it has many psychological benefits. I found it interesting that your mood is greatly affected by working out. It can lift depression, as well as make your memory and recognition better. Because it increases learning, I feel it is very important for high school and college students to workouin order to do better in school.

nancercize's comment, December 18, 2012 10:56 PM
And when we exercise in nature, the mental and psychological benefits accrue even more. There is a large body of research on this, growing every day. The Japanese even have "forest therapy."

Best Home Gym Equipment For Weight Loss - Lifespan Fitness Blog

Best Home Gym Equipment For Weight Loss - Lifespan Fitness Blog | Bodybuilding & Fitness | Scoop.it
Whilst we’d all love to consistently be able to attend a gym three to four days a week, the reality is our busy lives typically restrict the time we have available.
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

Another great post byt Lifespan Fitness.  Good video and this great reminder!

Remember:

~Interval training is incredibly effective, running at 75% for five minutes, followed by a short break and another period of 75% is more effective than walking for an hour, it’s all about burning off those calories – obviously sustained high intensity running isn’t possible initially, work your way up to it!

~Keep your body guessing – don’t allow your body to adjust to your weight loss feats, switch up your training when your weight loss begins to stunt, barriers are meant to be broken!

~Make sure your diet is in check, weight loss simply isn’t possible if you’re still binging; feel free to browse our blog for nutrition tips and recipe ideas- we’re nutrition crazy! Remember, correct portions, fruits, vegetables and lean meats.

Is Sitting Worse Than Smoking?

Is Sitting Worse Than Smoking? | Bodybuilding & Fitness | Scoop.it

“Sitting all day long is literally killing us,” says obesity expert Dr. James Levine, who describes exactly what you’re probably doing right this moment as “dangerous behavior.” And in case you’re thinking none of this applies to you because you Zumba, Morales adds, “A trip to the gym, while beneficial, can’t undo the damage done all day.”
